The Brda River is the greatest treasure of Bydgoszcz. Every day it is within reach of residents and numerous guests visiting us. Our city has been promoting ecology for years. The result is that today the river is clean, full of life, ideal for leisure and relaxation on its banks.
The most important entertainment events in our city are organised on the Brda River. Each year in June Bydgoszcz Water Festival “Ster na Bydgoszcz” attracts thousands of guests and great stars of music, while the “River of Music” reveals classical music in a completely new setting.
The charms of our clean river are also appreciated by sports enthusiasts. Every year in the centre of the city, swimming competitions “Water Bydgoska” (Bydgoszcz Water), impressive triathlonists’ struggles during Bydgoszcz Triathlon and countless canoeing rallies are organised.
Bydgoszcz looks the most beautiful from the river side. The revitalised Mill Island, renovated boulevards, treasures of Bydgoszcz architecture are best seen during a cruise by water tram. Take a deep breath on the Mill Island
Mill Island - the spatial heart of Bydgoszcz. A green enclave in the heart of a vibrant city. The island has not yet been seized by our greedy modern civilization. How surprising! A park and alleys flanked by old trees: chestnuts and lindens. Vast lawns, alleys with benches and the sound of water falling rapidly through the weir. Mill Island is a green oasis in the city centre (just few steps from the Old Market Square). Most of the buildings located on the Island Mill are from the nineteenth century. However, so-called cellar of the White Granary still remember the fifteenth century. Water, footbridges, old mills (now museums), red-brick buildings reflected in the depths of Młynówka (called Bydgoszcz Venice), groomed green-all this create an atmosphere of Bydgoszcz river island.
Through the municipal water lock
This lock was constructed within the redevelopment of the Bydgoszcz Canal in the years 1908-1915, replacing the old structure causing many problems. This is a single chamber lock of dock structure, with lifting height of 3,33 m. Lockage here takes about 10 minutes. In the years 2015-2016, the lock was completely renovated.
Kayaking on the Brda River
It is also worth taking advantage of the offer of water tourism equipment rental, for example in Przystań Bydgoszcz and take a canoe, SUP or pedalo ride along the Brda River in the center of Bydgoszcz. From this perspective, the city looks completely different.
Interesting buildings by the Brda River
Old Granaries
The Bydgoszcz granaries on the Brda River are the symbol of the city. They have always been a natural city logo. Why so much sympathy, respect and pride for, you might say, mere granaries - buildings far more modest than extravagant mansions, stylish churches or imposing monuments? -->> Old Granaries
