The Eye

In Prof. Józef Kałużny Square in Bydgoszcz, there is a sculpture symbolising an eye – a reference to the achievements of an outstanding ophthalmologist who performed over 20,000 operations during his 40-year career. The installation by Piotr Wesołowski was selected in a competition in which six artists took part. The work is made of Corten steel – a special material that, thanks to its natural patina, is resistant to weather conditions. The sculpture depicts the structure of the eye and the process of vision, symbolically representing the field to which Prof. Kałużny devoted his life.
