Wickerwork maker

Above Jatki Street in Bydgoszcz, there is a sculpture by Jerzy Kędziora, known for his characteristic balancing figures. The work, entitled ‘Wikliniarka’ (Wickerwork maker), depicts a woman weaving a sun-shaped basket from seven wicker shoots, sitting on a wicker seat suspended on a special rope between the buildings at 4 Mostowa Street and 12 Grodzka Street.

 The sculpture not only decorates the space, but also refers to the history of the place – in the past, women did indeed weave wicker baskets on Jatki Street, and the street itself was famous for its wickerwork.
