Bydgoszcz City Council has passed a resolution on becoming a candidate city to the European Capital of Culture 2016.

The City Council justified their decision as follows: The European Capital of Culture is one of the most recognizable and prestigious cultural initiatives in the European Union. The ECOF programme enables cities to emphasise their cultular diversity, common aspects and values. For candidate cities it is a great opportunity to promote and strengthen their position on the international arena.
